As a Senior Accountant, you're an accounting and tax veteran. You've prepared umpteen working paper files and tax returns over the years ranging from simple holding companies to complex corporate groups. You know what a taxpayer has to file when, where and how and the pitfalls to avoid. You've efficiently and effectively responded to requests from clients, partners and the CRA.

  • All aspects of preparing financial statements for compilation and review engagements including:
    • working paper files with adjusting entries and referenced supporting documentation;
    • GST returns and reconciliations;
    • payroll returns and reconciliations
    • corporate income tax returns; and
    • tax planning for clients to determine whether salary, dividends or a combination thereof are in line with their goals and advising clients accordingly
  • Personal tax returns including optimization of deductions and credits
  • Investment statement summaries and analysis including calculating adjusted cost base, capital gains and losses and reconciling to information returns (T3, T5, T5013, etc.)
  • Training new staff accountants with respect to both technical knowledge and office policies and procedures
  • Corresponding with the Canada Revenue Agency with respect to T1 adjustments and assessment reviews
  • Keeping partners informed of problems encountered with assigned work, researching alternatives and recommending solutions to those problems
  • Other duties as requested
  • At least three years of work experience with accounting and tax in a firm environment
  • Preference for a professional accounting designation
  • Thorough understanding of income tax, payroll taxes and sales tax including applicable legislation, regulations and administration
  • Positive attitude and desire to help clients as well as other team members
  • Results oriented with the ability to complete assignments on time and manage multiple priorities at once
  • Friendly and personable
  • Great attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks, Sage 50, Excel and Word
  • Familiarity with CaseWare, Jazzit and Taxprep is an asset
